Bright and emotionally expressed

This piece is full of melodic sounds. It is really touching when you have one instrument such as piano which has the greatest sound range, compared to other instruments, shows off its sensitivity alone. I like the chord you use (Bb, is it?). Though it's repetitive for 5 min song, it's lingering in listener's head for such a long time.

Accompaniment from strings and woodwinds can bring this piece even more dramatic.

Thanks ^_^
I have no idea what chord I used, I have no knowledge in music whatsoever, I just compose on the go, I never had the patience to learn the chords and such, but I know I should ^_^'
I'll try to add some other instruments like you proposed, thanks for the tips ^_^

Fairy-Tale-like

I have to say that your song has a very sweet feeling within it. The instruments are well picked, yet I still think you could have fixed the clarity of the instruments, especially the piano, so it could be less reverberated and just a little more piercing. For the melody, I appreciate the flowing and smooth transitions from beginning to end....though I expect a little more "tension" or "peak" within it. :)

This could fit in films or video game perfectly, I can guarantee you. It's a great piece nonetheless. Keep it coming.

You're spot on with what I think, unfortunately every time I go back to redo the things you've said, I get composer's block and it ends up sound worse off.

Thanks for the comment.

Beautiful

I must admit that as a classical music fan, I love the first two minutes. It's really relaxing to listen to it as the piano glides me through the song. Melodic composition gets you far ahead of anyone else around here. However, when the trancey beat comes in, it's sort of disrupt the emotion of the song. The warp gate effect (or maybe it's just the strong kick) you put in creates a weird effect when I listen to the song though, but unluckily not really in a good way.

I wish you could make a classical track out of this piece and somehow lessen the trance elements out, or maybe reduce the noise sounding in your song, so the song remains smooth and relaxing. :)

I really like this piece, nevertheless. Though I may give you only an 8, but I voted 5 because I know that you put a lot of effort into this piece.

Blizzaine responds:

Thanks a lot. I worked really hard on the whole thing. I mixed 2 of my favorite elements of trance, the classical soft melodies and the harder sidechaining stuff.

For long time trance fans, the part where the beat and the weird "gate" effect are welcomed (hence the name "psytrance". You seem more like a classical music lover.

Thanks for the review!

Somehow uplifting and trembling my heart.

The melody and chord follow just in the right order that it tells the story very clearly about a departure to greater adventure and reflect back about where you come from. The instruments are not that great but the melody is excellent.

carlohmf responds:

As I've always said, I've always liked this song and it's one of my favorites in the game. XD I understand what you mean by the instruments not being great. It's MIDI after all. Don't get me wrong, I do love MIDI, but with so much new technology available for making music, MIDI sequences seem to be a little out of date.

I'm currently using FL Studio 9 which was just released a few days ago. XD

Thanks for the review!

Hmmm....

I think the you've got the melody down quite well on this, though I personally think that you could have added a solid bass sound that suspends the song a little more. The ending is quite good too. :)

rtnario responds:

"a solid bass sound that suspends the song a little more"? I'll try that and see if it works for me. After all, it's from a trusted source :) Thanks for reviewing my works, for the third time! I think I'll return the favor one of these days...

Good.

I am quite moved by guitar here, since it's really progressive, and the bell-like sound also adds in a clearer picture of a dreamy day. I wish you could give some fixing on snare though. It sounds a little sharp, compared to soothing melody.

Still, it's a great listen. :) Keep it up.

Tilkanuts responds:

I'm glad you liked it.

Yeah, I tried experimenting a little with that snare, and I thought that the snare I chose sounded pretty good, although i can see why someone wouldn't like it how it is.

Very intense.

The song just fits in perfectly with the dialogues you provide. Though I've never played Cave Story before, I could imagine how epic it would be to have such an exciting track like this. :)

rtnario responds:

Well, Cave Story is actually 8-bit-ey so when I remixed the track it was originally from something in that genre. Although it was still epic, I just wanted to, let's say, use a different instrument set :)

You should play Cave Story when you're not composing something epic, mmk? XD Thanks for another review!

Quite good.

You use the instruments quite well here. The melody is a little repetitive but the blending of melodies from other instruments such as brass give the song some colors. I love the ending though.

Tombor911 responds:

Thanks a bunch for your review! The feedback is gold for me!

Check out my other pieces.

Quite good. :D

The piano is simply clear and lucid, and the melody flows quite smoothly throughout the song too. :D Violin works well in emphasizing the melodies. Keep it up. I think this would work very well for games/films.

What soundfont do you use for the piano? It sounds really appealing.

rtnario responds:

Thanks for the *return* review =)

To be honest, I think I could've made the violin sound better, but then again this was back then when I was trying my hand at the classical genre. I say that referring to the past, yet I'm still trying as of now. XD

And I thought the piano would be all too familiar for you...it's Edirol's ^^ In fact, I used Edirol alone for instruments with some tweaked EQ and stereo enhancements here and there.

Thanks again for reviewing; I'm still testing out what you told me in your reply to my review. I can't wait to make a song out of everything I've learned ;)

Satisfactory.

This song has a very steady and strong kick, however, I think it sounds quite repetitive (like someone has said below, it takes quite a long time to build up). What I can suggest is that you can use more instruments to make the song fuller. The mixing is already well done. :D

Mans0n responds:

thanks man
